CPC Campaign for Grade Level Reading Grant $20,000

The proposed activities in the Jackson County Children’s Policy Council’s Campaign for Grade Level Reading Grant Application address book distribution, early literacy, reading projects, and a community literacy event.

 

Book Distribution:

            *Jackson County Children’s Policy Council will create and sponsor 12 “Free Little Libraries” across                           Jackson County

            *One “Free Little Library” will be placed outside of each elementary school in Jackson        

                         County

            *One “Free Little Library” will be placed outside of Jackson County Juvenile Court          

            *Each library will be registered with “My Free Little Library” so that families not familiar with the                             school can still access the library.

Early Literacy:

             *Jackson County Children’s Policy Council will develop a “Baby Bundle” program to promote

                         daily prenatal reading.

            *This project will allow the CPC to create 350 “baby bundles” which is the average number of                                     babies born in Jackson County in one year.

            *The bundles will be distributed by Scottsboro OG/GYN.

            * Every pregnant mother, who pledges daily reading, will receive a package consisting of one                                     book, sign-up information for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, information about the                               importance of reading to your child, and a small toy.

CPC Technical Assistance Grant $25,000

All proposed activities in the Jackson County Children’s Policy Council’s Technical Assistance Grant application were based on the 2023 Needs Assessment. The top three needs identified in the 2023 Needs Assessment are mental health, substance use/abuse, and family engagement.

 

Project Activities:

              *Speaking engagement and community scan by leading expert in drug trends, Jeremaine                                        Galloway, "Tall Cop"

                       *CEUs will be offered

                       *Two training sessions (one morning and one afternoon session) will be offered to allow for                           greater participation

              *Speaking engagement on the current mental health crisis and mental health challenges in                                    children

                       *CEUs will be offered

                       *Two training sessions (one morning and one afternoon session) will be offered to allow for                           greater participation

               *Mini-Grant awarded to YAP House to expand services offered to families of Jackson County

               *Community-Wide Family Engagement Event

                        *200 board games will be given away to encourage parental engagement in the home

                        *Activities at the event will also encourage parental engagement
