Turning community needs into action.
Through collaboration, community partnerships, and targeted funding, the Jackson County Children's Policy Council helps turn identified needs into meaningful opportunities for children and families throughout Jackson County.
Youth Support & Opportunity
Some of the most meaningful support begins with simply showing up. Each summer, young people served by Youth Advocate Programs spend a day at a private Jackson County pond generously shared by a community member—swimming, fishing, paddling, eating together, and simply having the chance to be kids. And every year, YAP Director Beverly Benson keeps one tradition going: she jumps in with them.
Moments like these reflect what makes YAP's work so meaningful. Young people find connection, belonging, encouragement, and adults who don't just tell them they matter—they show them.
CPC has been proud to support YAP since 2024, from helping equip the newly established YAP House to investing in summer activities, back-to-school needs, and weekly youth programming. Today, that partnership continues to grow through Jackson Youth Connect and Jackson Youth Access to Opportunity.
Storybook Spooktacular
2024 & 2025
For two years, Storybook Spooktacular brought children, families, community organizations, and volunteers together for a free evening of books, games, activities, family fun, and connections to local resources. The event quickly became one of CPC's largest community initiatives, welcoming more than 1,200 people each year.

Chapter One brings community partners together to put books into children's hands from the very beginning. More than 350 Baby Bundles have been distributed to expectant families through our partnership with Scottsboro OB/GYN, with members of the North Jackson High School Beta Club helping assemble the bundles as a community service project. Each year, CPC also provides a boxed set of books to every Jackson County Head Start child through Community Action Partnership of North Alabama.
Strengthening Those Who Serve Children
CPC's impact also reaches the professionals who serve Jackson County's children and families every day. Through specialized training and professional development, CPC brings educators, service providers, and community partners together to better understand emerging challenges, strengthen their skills, and build connections that help them better support local youth.

2025 Award of Excellence
In September 2025, the Jackson County Children's Policy Council was honored with an Award of Excellence in recognition of its work to engage children, families, and the community in efforts to improve the lives of Jackson County's youngest citizens.
The award recognized CPC for going “above and beyond the call of duty to engage children, families, and their communities in efforts to improve the lives of their smallest citizens.”
Presented by the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education and Children First.
